KTN-129 Anan Creek Bear Excursion (2008) - Permits are extremely limited

Grizzley BearOne of the best natural places in North America for bear viewing opportunities is found at the remote location of Anan Creek. You'll be taking off from the Ketchikan waterfront by floatplane with an experienced Alaska bush pilot for a unique wildlife expedition limited to a small number of permitted visitors.

Flying deep into the Tongass National Forest to Anan Creek, this premier bear viewing sight is one of the only places in the world where you may be able to watch both brown and black bear feeding in the same location. This once in a lifetime experience is available to Anan Creek is restricted by the U.S. Forest Service and requires a Permit. The floatplane flight to Anan Creek is one of the most spectacular natural wilderness areas in this part of' Alaska. After landing at Anan Bay, you will receive a briefing with a U.S. Forest Service Park Ranger. After a half-mile hike on a trail bordering the creek you'll arrive at the secure bear observatory overlooking a gorgeous waterfall. Here is where one of the largest concentrations of black and brown bear anywhere in Alaska gather to feed on the large run of salmon, as they head upstream to spawn. You'll also witness bald eagles in abundance as they wait for the scraps left by the bears. Other wildlife in the area that you may observe are seals, mink, marten and wolves.

You'll have plenty of time to observe the wildlife activity in this viewing area before the short hike back to your airplane. this intimate natural experience. The tour operates only during the prime pink salmon run starting the first part of July and lasting around six weeks, through the end of August.

Anan Creek Bear Observatory is one of the best opportunities to view brown bears in their natural habitat. This tour includes a 40 minute flight each way via float plane, and then a 1/2 mile walk up a trail to the Observatory deck. You'll spend 1.5 hours watching both black & brown bear fishing for the salmon making their way upstream. Anan Creek is staffed by the US Forest Service and they limit the number of people that come into Anan each year, so book in advance for this tour.

Please note that we cannot guarantee wildlife - because it is wild. We can only offer the best opportunities for viewing.

"Please make your reservations well in advance ~ permits are very limited.  Effective 2004 this area became a site  by permit only; you will want to reserve your space for this popular tour well in advance"

Customer Comments

"We had a wonderful time, especially on the Anan Creek excursion.  It was incredible and the pilot was great!  We highly recommend this tour.  People we talked to on the cruise who booked their excursions through the boat had totally different experiences...in Ketchikan they took them to Neets, as booked, and there were zero bears (which is what our guides said would be the case and that is whey they changed ours to Anan Creek).  Needless to say, we were glad we had used your agency.

We will pass your name on to friends who are traveling to Alaska.  I am so glad I found you.

Thanks for your help."
