A Family Friendly Tour
Our most popular nature tour is an exciting opportunity to see the wilderness, wildlife in its natural habitat, the world famous Chilkat Bald Eagle Preserve, and the magnificent glacier fed Chilkoot Lake. After flying to Haines from Skagway, your knowledgeable and entertaining guide will begin your tour with a trip through Ft. Seward, Alaska’s first permanent U.S. Army post, constructed in 1903 and now on the National Historic Register. On the way to the Chilkat Bald Eagle Preserve, you’ll listen to narratives about natural history, wildlife, Native Tlingit culture and various folklore of the area. After a stop at the Interpretive center and short walk, we’ll head along the coast of Lynn Canal where we’ll travel past the "Tank Farm" and Ferry Terminal on the way to the Chilkoot River and Lake.
With four species of salmon spawning here, it is prime bear territory. Along the banks of the river, the brown bears feed on the spawning salmon - and although not always predictable, we often see them, particularly later in the summer as the salmon runs heighten and the fall approaches. Because of the large abundance of salmon, there are eagles and other shore birds. This is what we call "the Alaska of your dreams".
