Meet us in Juneau, Alaska. We値l take the ferry through the Inside Passage to Haines where we値l scout for bears feeding on spawning salmon and take a float down the Chilkat River through the World Famous Chilkat Bald Eagle Preserve. Heading to Whitehorse up through the Haines Highway you値l be traveling through some of the most spectacular scenery in the world. In Whitehorse, on the Yukon River, we値l have an introduction to Native Fiber arts with a presentation on Qiviuq, and the musk ox with Wendy Chambers of Folkknits. Traveling up the Klondike Highway, we値l kick up our heels in Dawson City, the famous Gold-Rush town with a trip to Diamond Tooth Gerties and other famous sights. Now the real fun begins! Travel up the
modern frontier road, The Dempster
Highway, a 460-mile trip from the
Klondike to Inuvik. With incredible scenery and opportunities to view the
wildlife you値l learn about the culture and history of this vast region. We値l
cross the Arctic Circle, and the Peel & McKenzie Rivers to arrive at the Land of
the Midnight Sun. Once in Inuvik ("place of the people") you値l be fascinated
with the Native Culture and this town near the Beaufort Sea Coast. Here the
gathering of native artisans and performers come together for the yearly Great
Northern Arts Festival that is NWT痴 premier artistic event with exhibits of all
types of creative art medium from fossilized mammoth, beading, embroidery work
to pastel crayons. You can watch demonstrations and purchase works. There is a wonderful spirit of hospitality in the Far North.
