JNU-217 - Glacier Trek - Level 1
(2008)
A Family Friendly
Tour

This trip is a
non-strenuous, 1-hour interpretive walk. The guide provides detailed
explanations of the glacier environment, the surrounding area, and teaches
proper use of the mountaineering equipment provided. There is plenty of time for
photo opportunities. The amount of walking is moderate, over relatively flat to
rolling terrain. No previous experience is necessary. Appropriate
mountaineering gear is provided for each level of trekking experience. All trips
are conducted in small groups, normally no more than 12 clients, and provide
personalized service.
Your treks
includes approximately 30-35 minutes of helicopter flight time to take you
to and from your glacier landing site. On your way you will have the
opportunity to witness the landscape change from the lush forests at sea
level to the granite peaks that surround the Juneau Icefield. Flights are
conducted in AS350 AStar helicopters. These aircraft have become the
standard in the helicopter tour industry.
Time on the
glacier to explore and learn, proper equipment to safely and effectively
move around the glacier surface, and knowledgeable, experienced guides to
teach you about the glacier environment and how to use the mountaineering
equipment are the core features of the glacier trek.
