JNU-216 - Glacier Trek - Level 2  (2008)

A Family Friendly Tour

On this 2-hour hike, there is an early emphasis on learning the proper use of the mountaineering gear and understanding the glacier features and hazards so that more remote areas of the glacier can be accessed during the trek. You will experience physical activity interspersed with detailed explanations of the glacier environment and surrounding area. The amount of walking is extensive on uneven and sometimes steep terrain. No previous experience is necessary but you should be comfortable walking 2 miles over uneven terrain.  Appropriate mountaineering gear is provided for each level of trekking experience. All trips are conducted in small groups, normally no more than 12 clients, and provide personalized service.

Your treks includes approximately 30-35 minutes of helicopter flight time to take you to and from your glacier landing site. On your way you will have the opportunity to witness the landscape change from the lush forests at sea level to the granite peaks that surround the Juneau Icefield. Flights are conducted in AS350 AStar helicopters. These aircraft have become the standard in the helicopter tour industry.

Time on the glacier to explore and learn, proper equipment to safely and effectively move around the glacier surface, and knowledgeable, experienced guides to teach you about the glacier environment and how to use the mountaineering equipment are the core features of the glacier trek.

Comments:

We wanted to thank you for a wonderful experience on the Glacier trek. We felt our guides, Kevin and Evelyn did an excellent job in making sure we had fun but a safe adventure. It is something we will never forget. It was the highlight of our Alaskan trip and we have been telling our friends if they ever want to do it to contact you.

Thank you again,

Bob Braschi, Mark Charcky and Jonathan Melville
