SIT-258 Marine Wildlife Adventure (2008)
A Family Friendly Tour
Sitka Sound, on the edge of the wild Tongass National Forest, is an amazing place, absolutely teeming with life. Residents of this abundant area include Humpback, Gray, Minke and Orca whales, Steller sea lions, harbor seals, sea otters, jumping salmon, puffins, murres, auklets, eagles, cormorants, and many other wild birds and animals (see the Sitka Wildlife Calendar for more information). Enthusiastic visitors, natural historians and photographers alike will marvel at this spectacular wild paradise. Your boat accommodates only six passengers at a time, so you are guaranteed an up-close and personal adventure. This might be your chance to add the Black Oystercatcher, Ancient Murrelet or Rhinoceros Auklet to your list; perhaps you'll find out what whale breath really smells like!
About Your Sitka Captain Your guide is a USCG licensed 100 ton master with more than 20 years experience on the waters of Southeast Alaska. He holds a BS in forest sciences and is a certified biology teacher. He fished commercially for ten years, worked as a fisheries biologist and a US Forest Service botanist. He has taught Alaska natural history since 1986. He serves on both the Alaska state trails board, and the SEAtrails (Southeast Alaska Trail System) Board. He has SCUBA dived extensively in Southeast Alaska and kayaked thousands of miles along the north Pacific coast. Natural history and boating are not only his professions, they are his passions ______________________________
