JNU-201 - Mendenhall Glacier Float Trip (2008)

A Family Friendly Tour

Your adventure begins with a short but scenic drive to Mendenhall Lake where you'll have an excellent view of Mendenhall Glacier - one and a half miles wide and one hundred fifty feet high! Near the shoreline suit up with rain gear, life jackets and rubber boots. Rafts carry eight to twelve people and are rowed by an experienced guide.

As you glide past Mendenhall Glacier on this iceberg-studded lake, you will be treated to spectacular views of hanging glaciers, peaks towering 7000 feet above the river and glacial topography. Your knowledgeable guide will share interesting facts about this 12-mile long glacier and its medial and terminal moraines.

As you begin your adventure down the river you’ll encounter several exciting Class II & III rapids with names like, “Iatola Hola”, “Pin Ball Alley” and “Moon Flats”. In between the white-water excitement your guide will explain the natural phenomena at work in this scenic valley. Once ashore you will enjoy an Alaskan-style snack featuring reindeer sausage, cheese, smoked salmon spread with crackers, plus apple cider and hot cider.

The Mendenhall Glacier Float Trip is an ideal experience for beginning and experienced rafters from 6 to 99. Your expert guide will make this adventure safe and exciting for anyone who can hang on and shout, “Yeeehaaa!”.

NOTE: Boots are provided, but an extra pair of socks may be advisable. Participants must weigh a minimum of 40 pounds.

*Note: Children must weigh at least 40 pounds to fit into the life jackets
