North to Alaska

Discover for yourself what makes driving North to Alaska so legendary. We will introduce you to the treasured lands of the First Nations, gold rush history, and pioneer traditions - all hosted by some of the friendliest people you'll ever have the pleasure of meeting.

Day One - SEATTLE to WILLIAMS LAKE
We depart Seattle at 8am and drive north, passing through the beautiful Skagit Valley and onward through British Columbia to our destination of Williams Lake in the heart of the Cariboo region.  The scenery is dramatic, and wildlife abounds.  This is a great area for birders!  Accommodations will be in a cozy B&B.

Day Two - PRINCE GEORGE
After breakfast at our B&B, we'll continue north into the vast wilderness of Northern BC.  Our final destination is Price George, at the confluence of the Fraser & Nechako rivers.  Prince George is sometimes known as the "Capital of the North," and here there are limitless opportunities for everything from outdoor activities to cultural experiences.  This afternoon is yours for exploring.  Lodging is at a local inn.

Day Three - FORT NELSON
Fort Nelson, located at the Northeast corner of British Columbia, is the entryway to the northernmost reaches of the Rocky Mountains. It is also the gateway to some of BC’s most extraordinary provincial parks, in particular Stone Mountain, Muncho Lake and Liard River Hot Springs. All three are found in the Muskwa-Kechika Management Area – a vast tract of Northern Rocky Mountain wilderness so teeming with wildlife that it is often compared to Africa’s Serengeti.  Lodging is at a local inn.

Day Four - WATSON LAKE
Today we cross into Alaska and enter the Yukon!  Our destination is Watson Lake, the gateway to the Yukon.  In addition to numerous outdoor activities, Watson Lake also offers the Northern Lights Space & Science Center which features a daily multi-media show called The Myths and Mysteries of the Northern Lights.  We'll also see the "Signpost Forest," where tens of thousands of people have posted signs from their home towns since 1942.  Tonight our lodging is at a local hotel.

Day Five - WHITEHORSE
Welcome to Whitehorse, capital of the Yukon, and home to some of the most spectacular scenery in Canada. Named by some the Wilderness City, Whitehorse nestles on the banks of the famous Yukon River surrounded by mountains and clear mountain lakes.  Over one hundred years ago, reckless adventurers fought their way down the Yukon River by boat on their voyage to the goldfields.  Lodging tonight is at a colorful local hotel.

Day Six - SKAGWAY
A place exists in Alaska where the past lives on, where the cries of  "gold in the Yukon" still echo from steep canyon walls, where the sounds of barroom pianos and boomtown crowds ring out in the night. A place where the romance and excitement of yesteryear linger around every street corner, every bend in the trail.  That place is Skagway.  We'll travel from Whitehorse to Skagway via the historic White Pass & Yukon Route Railroad, arriving with plenty of time for you to explore.  Tonight we'll stay in a lovely local B&B.

Day Seven - HAINES
We'll enjoy breakfast at our B&B, then take the ferry from Skagway to the charming town of Haines, just across the Lynn Fjord.  Then we'll take
an exciting raft trip down the Chilkat River through the world famous Chilkat Bald Eagle Preserve.  This adventure takes you through the site of  the world’s largest concentration of Bald Eagles!  After rafting, you may explore cultural heritage at Sheldon Museum, and at Alaska Indian Arts in historic Fort Seward, learn about the area's natural history through taxidermy at the American Bald Eagle Foundation, or browse Haines' galleries for exquisite artistry of the Chilkoot and Chilkat Tlingits and other resident artists. Tonight we'll have a farewell dinner together.  Lodging is in a local inn.

Day Eight - JUNEAU
Another ferry ride takes you to Alaska's capital, Juneau.  Juneau is Alaska as you can only imagine. Scenery that lures. Adventure that inspires. Heritage that fascinates. An experience that will leave you enchanted.  You'll have the rest of the day to explore this intriguing town on your own.  Your lodging is in one of Juneau's upscale hotels.

Day Nine - DEPART FOR HOME
