SKG-335 - Skagway Spectacular

(2008)

A Family Friendly Tour

Join your guide for the most entertaining and informative land-based tour offered in Skagway.  The Skagway Spectacular starts our with a drive through Skagway's Historic District and a stop at the city overlook, where your guide will share stories and the history of the area.  Next, at the Gold Rush Cemetery, he will bring to life the gunfight between Soapy Smith and Frank Reid--the most famous shoot-out since the OK Corral.  A short distance from the cemetery is beautiful Lower Reid Falls, the perfect backdrop for a family photo.

The it is on to White Pass, with optional photo stops at South and Harding Glaciers, Brackett Wagon Road, Pitchfork and Bridal Veil waterfalls, and the Valley Overlook.  As you journey along the Klondike Highway to azure glaciers, historic points of interest, thundering waterfalls, majestic mountain vistas and pristine wildlife, your guide will share his knowledge of the Klondike Gold Rush.  As you learn about the hardship the stampeeders endured, you will be truly amazed that anyone made it to the gold fields!  One of the many highlights is drinking ice cold glacial water at Bridal Veil Falls.

The next stop on the journey is Tormented Valley, with optional photo stops at the Upper Tormented Valley Overlook, Divided Lake, Fraser and the Lower Tormented Valley.  This areas features an almost "lunar" appearance, making this one of the most unique eco-systems in North America.  Here we will explore a forest-tundra ecotone consisting of a stunted forest of 300-year old trees (known as krummholz) and alpine tundra.  You will be awed by the stark beauty the glaciers have left behind.

On the journey back to Skagway, your tour guide will recite his favorite poems of the Klondike by British author Robert Service.  Back in town, you'll be dropped off in town for more exploring and shopping, or back at your cruise ship.  Your guide will be happy to direct you to the best food and shopping in town!

THIS TOUR WILL BE CROSSING THE U.S. AND CANADIAN BORDER.  ALL PASSENGERS ARE REQUIRED TO HAVE IN THEIR POSSESSION A PASSPORT WHEN CROSSING THE BORDER.  ANYONE WITHOUT A PASSPORT MAY BE DENIED BOARDING.
