JNU-211 - Whale Watching/Mendenhall

Glacier Tour (2008)

A Family Friendly Tour

The Mendenhall Glacier and Whale Watching are the two main attractions in the Juneau area. Doing these two options as a combined tour will allow you to be as efficient as possible with your time in Juneau.

The Mendenhall Glacier is an amazing sight to behold. The glacier is located in the center of the Mendenhall Valley, which is located between Downtown Juneau and Auke Bay. You will have approximately 45 to 60 minutes at the Mendenhall Glacier. While you visit the glacier you may take photos and searching for different types of wildlife.

Our jet boats have an outdoor viewing deck to allow for an up close and personal experience with the wildlife. Once a whale is spotted, our captains will navigate to a safe location with an opportunity for excellent photo opportunities. In addition, hydrophones may be lowered into the water to allow you to hear the whales communicate with each other. Also, while on the water there will be a naturalist who will guide you through the tour and answer any questions you might have about the flora and fauna of Alaska.

Our boats allow for an amazing viewing experience. Each boat is close to the water and provide an eye level view of the wildlife. In addition, there are not large crowds to contend with. We maintain our intimate environment by keeping our groups small in size. In addition, our boats have comfortable bucket seats two across or comfortable bench seating for three.

There are large panoramic windows all around the boat for excellent viewing opportunities. You will always have a great view from your seat. There is no need to position yourself for a good view because all of our seats are great! Also, all of our boats have outdoor viewing decks on the front and back of the boats We provide binoculars as a courtesy to help in your whale search. All of our boats are equipped with marine plumbing onboard.

We provide the best photo opportunities, low to the water and no crowds - the rest is up to you.

Typical Boat Layouts:

                                  Sommer Star   Big Blue
