Whales of Point Adolphus -
Multi-Day Trip

(2006)

A Family Friendly Tour

Join us on this easy but exciting camping and sea kayaking trip. We will spend two full days and nights at Alaska's most famous humpback whale feeding area. Days are spent kayaking and watching for humpback whales, orca, sea lions, eagles, and sea birds, hiking the beaches, or exploring the old-growth rainforest of Chichagof Island. At night, fall asleep under the canopy of the Tongass National Forest listening to the blows of whales frolicking offshore. This is a great trip for families with teenagers or anyone who wants to combine a genuine wilderness adventure with other explorations of Alaska. Begins and ends in Gustavus. We highly recommend you stay at the Alaska Discovery Inn the night before your trip departs. It is the most convenient place to stay as there will be an early pre-trip meeting at the inn on the morning your trip departs.

DETAILED ITINERARY:

Day 1 - We will meet in Gustavus for an early morning pre-trip meeting. We depart from the Gustavus dock, where we board a chartered cabin cruiser for the ride across Icy Strait. Start watching for whales! We'll unload off the stunning coastline near Point Adolphus on Chichagof Island, in the heart of the Tongass National Forest.

Day 2 - We will be based in our wilderness camp for two nights. During the day we will paddle the coastline of Chichagof Island watching for whales, sea lions, porpoise, orca, and sea birds. There may be time for beachcombing and forest walks. Our paddling distance will be tailored to the group.

Day 3 - We paddle to our pick-up point and board our charter boat back to Gustavus. We highly recommend our Glacier Bay Extension, which is based out of Gustavus, to complement this extraordinary Alaskan adventure. Begins and ends in Gustavus.
